CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH

CORE VALUES

Acts 2:44 captures one of the great principles of the Christian church as it says, “And all that believed were together, and had all things common.” While we esteem and celebrate the uniqueness of every member of our Calvary church family, we unapologetically value six core areas in the life of our church. Together, these shared values identify who we are, rally us toward all that we desire to accomplish, and unite us in fellowship.

01

PERSONAL FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

A relationship with Jesus Christ is not merely a means to keep from going to Hell, but it is esential for living a truly meaningful life.  Real living begins with the spirit is "quickened..." because we..."were dead in trespasses and sins." (Eph. 2:1)  At Calvary Baptist Church, our main mission and goal in our existence is to help everyone who visits or attends our church to come to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

02

PASSION FOR THE GOSPEL

Because we care so deeply about the souls of people both is Clay County and all around the world, Calvary Baptist strives to be a Great Commission church.  Through our various outreach ministries we evangelize the greater Jacksonville area on a weekly basis.  Through our global missions program and our ANOM ministry, Calvary seeks to share the gospel with people globally.

03

PURSUIT OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH

If a Christian's spiritual life is not developed that Christian will  remain a spiritual baby feeding on the milk of the Word alone.  God desires a truly deep relationship with each and every one of us.  For this purpose, Calvary has developed a Sunday School program that aids in the discipleship process to help people of all ages to spiritually grow and develop into what God desires for them to be: spiritually mature.  We, also, are developing one on one discipleship programs with spiritual growth as the chisf focus.

05

PRACTICAL BIBLE PREACHING & TEACHING

The Word of God is the final authority for all of our faith and practice; therefore, at Calvary, all of our preaching and teaching has the Bible at the center.  We do not value the words of any man, no matter how great they may be or how greatly God has used them, above the Word of God itself.  We strive to be "People of the Book."

04

PERSERVERANCE IN PRAYER

A Christian is only as strong as their prayer life...therefore, a church is only as strong as its members' prayer lives.  At Calvary, we put much emphasis on developing and cultivating a prayer life.  From our weekly Wednesday evening prayer meeting, to our various prayer meetings, we strive to be a praying church.

06

PURPOSEFUL WORSHIP

Scriptural worship is esential to building the spirit of both reverence and submission to Almighty God.  We strive in all of our congregational song selections and our special music to build an atmosphere of praising God.  The Word of God says that He..."inhabitest the praises..." of His people.  We strive to cultivate an atmosphere of praise so that God can freely move in our midst at every service.

CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH

OUR HISTORY

Calvary Baptist Church was founded by Pastor Ben Drysdale as an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in 1981.  We started with a small group of people who came together out of a shared desire to create a different kind of church—a church that was consumed with taking the Gospel to all people both locally and around the world. Part of our journey has caused us to build and develop ministried that reach the people of Clay and Duval Counties.  Each week busses run to pick up families all over this region, we hold addiction recovery group meetings, minister to the homeless, take the gospel into the local jails and prisons.  Additionally, it has caused us to focus on sharing the Gospel all around the world through our missions giving and our ANOM ministry.

  • Established in 1981
  • 1996 - Pastor Ken Pledger became pastor
  • 1996 - Calvary Christian Academy began
  • 2008 - ANOM (All Nations Outreach Ministry) began
  • 2009 - Bro. Tim Pledger joined the pastoral team as the associate pastor
  • 2018 - Bro. Jeremy Peters joined the pastoral team as the youth pastor

CHANGING LIVES

Calvary is the most welcoming church I have ever been to. Everyone there makes my family feel welcome.  This is a place where we've learned and grown in the Word of God for years.

JAMES LEE

I have been going to Calvary for a few years now and absolutely love the culture here. Everyone is on fire for Jesus and looking to spread their love.
